There’s a chill in the air here in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, thanks to a cool front sweeping through the East Coast. But spa lovers are staying warm in the Broward Country Convention Center as they flock to the International Esthetics, Cosmetics and Spa (IECSC) event. I just returned from day one of the show, and the aisles are packed, the classrooms are full, and business is being done. Here, take a look at some scenes from the show.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow, where I’ll be moderating a panel discussion, “Running a Successful Luxury Spa.” If you are in the area, be sure to come to the show and join spa directors from several acclaimed area spas to find out how they have risen to the top in one of the country’s most competitive marketplaces. This interactive panel will touch on current trends in the high-end spa market as well as successful marketing, operations and retail strategies. Panelists include Lexay Reina, Spa Director, Lago Mar Resort and Club; Michael Wilson, Spa Director/General Manager, Bliss Spa; and Movita Hernandez, Spa Director, The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale. Admission to this panel discussion, plus 35 other classes in the Spa Business Conference, are free with your $45 daily admission ticket!

The weekend of IECSC New York also featured a successful SpaExec event filled with excellent education, great networking opportunities, and a packed party where industry movers-and-shakers gathered for cocktails and connections. The event kicked of on Monday, March 8, at the Javits Center with a keynote address from Sarah Boumphrey, countries and consumers research manager at Euromonitor International’s London Office, who addressed the topic of “Looking Beyond the Recession.” Next, a panel that included Peggy Wynne Borgman, CEO of Wynne Business and Preston Wynne Spa; Susie Ellis, president of Spa Finder; Mia Kyricos, director of global spa brands and programming for Starwood Hotels & Resorts; and Denise Vitiello, spa director at the Mandarin Oriental, New York discussed strategies to target the new generation spa consumer. SpaExec attendees then hopped on a bus to the Westin New York at Times Square. There, they enjoyed cocktails and appetizers while learning about new products and exciting offerings from Being True, Chadsworth & Haig, Comfort Zone, Éminence Organic Skin Care, GliSODin Skin Nutrients, Infinity Sun, La Bella Donna, M.D. Corrective Care, Matis Paris, Harms Software, O2 Intraceuticals, Oakworks, Pevonia Botanica, Pino, Rena Levi, RevitaLash, Sanitas Skincare, Sothys Paris, SpaRitual, Universal Companies, and Your Name Professional Brands. Next up is SpaExec Las Vegas, which will take place April 23 during IECSC Las Vegas. Visit www.spaexec.net for details.
Boost your profits—and your look—at the International Esthetics, Cosmetics & Spa Conference in New York City, starting this Sunday, March 7th at the Javits Center, thanks to Extend Your Lashes. The beauty of eyelash extensions is that they interest a range of clients: from the natural-look-loving, low-maintenance spa-goer who just want a subtle boost of glam to guests who want to make a statement and amp up their evening looks. This mass appeal makes the offering a profitable addition to your menu.
Interested in learning more about this sassy service? Be sure to pass by the Extend Your Lashes booth (#650) at IECSC New York, where representatives will be demonstrating the application of mink lashes. Want to try them out at your spa? There will also be drawings at the booth held each day of the show, at noon and at 4 p.m., where a select few will be able to win a recently launched Minkys Lash Tray, which retails for $60. Facilitating faster and easier lash application, each tray holds 16 different sizes of faux mink lashes, which are softer, lighter, and more flexible than conventional synthetic lashes. There are two options to choose from—either a natural J-Curl Lash or a more dramatic C-Curl Lash—to help clients achieve flirty and feminine runway-ready looks in the real world!
