Through the end of the month, The Peninsula Chicago will be raising money for the Windy City-based Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation (LSCRF). In addition to contributing $2 from every afternoon tea served in The Lobby and $5 from every dinner check from Avenues and Shanghai Terrace, the property will also be inviting spa-goers in the fundraising. When guests mention the breast cancer awareness campaign, $5 will be donated to the charity for every treatment at The Peninsula Spa by ESPA that is at least an hour. They will also have the option of offering an additional donation by adding to their total guest check.
In addition to helping the LSCRF, the spa is participating in the Pretty in Pink campaign and will continue to offer a $31 classic manicure through Halloween. In honor of this campaign, the spa made a donation to Bright Pink, a national non-profit organization that supports young women who are at risk of breast and ovarian cancer. In need of some retail therapy? South Florida-based Beauty Chronicles, an online beauty and fashion destination, is hosting a “Shop for the Cure” event tomorrow, Oct. 22 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Miami Children’s Museum. Guests are encouraged to shop fall’s latest trends from a variety of local and national beauty and fashion vendors. Guests taking a break from shopping can enjoy mini-makeovers and massages, or partake in yoga, salsa, and belly dancing classes. What’s more, Beauty Chronicles is donating 100 percent of the admission proceeds to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to help further breast cancer research. “This is an exciting event that brings together a mix of eclectic designers and the most innovative beauty products on the market today,” says Iris Gomez, president of Beauty Chronicles. “Not only is this the perfect mix of shopping, fashion, and pampering, but it’s also a night to come together for a good cause.” Tickets are available for purchase in advance at www.beautychronicles.com and at the door.

From now through Nov. 7, the Spa at La Costa Resort (Carlsbad, CA) is offering a Pink Ribbon promotion, which allows guests to book a 50-minute La Costa Massage or Facial at the discounted price of $125 when booked from Sunday through Friday. With each Pink Ribbon Treatment sold, the resort will donate $5 to the San Diego chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. What’s more, guests who book the Pink Ribbon Treatment also receive a one-time 25 percent discount in La Costa’s Plaza Shops through the end of October and a special price on the Spa Café’s Pink Ribbon dessert, a Tahitian vanilla bean cupcake with pink buttercream frosting created by the resort’s pastry chef Jaimie Hileman in honor of breast cancer awareness month. “Our spa is all about wellness, not just pampering,” says Rianna Riego, spa director of The Spa at La Costa Resort. “This type of promotion supports the wellness message and allows our guests to do something for their own physical well-being while feeling good about supporting a worthy cause.”

A luxe Zen palace perched high above New York City’s Columbus Circle, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, New York is a glorious escape in the center of Manhattan. With the re-launch of the Spa for a Year program, guests have the opportunity to keep coming back to the spa every month for a little urban renewal. In support of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Spa for a Year is a raffle that entitles the winner to a two-hour treatment every month for twelve months. Starting on October 1st, guests will be able to buy a Long Life Raffle Token at the reception desk for $50 a piece. If people would like a little more luck (and tokens) on their side, they can purchase 10 tokens for $450 and 20 tokens for $900. All of the proceeds will go to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). According to Denise Vitello, spa director at Mandarin Oriental, New York, this promotion helped raise $3,500 for the BCRF last year. “We are very excited to be continuing this program in support of breast cancer research,” she states “Last year, guests bought tokens in bulk to give to loved ones, friends, and breast cancer survivors.”
When it comes to going green, every little contribution helps. That’s why the Eco-Dentistry Association (EDA), an international association of dental professionals who encourage eco-friendly practices, is kicking off its National “Save 90-A-Day!” Campaign to celebrate Healthcare Environmental Awareness Week (Sept. 13-19). Starting Monday, provide your spa clients with the following regimen for conserving water when they brush their teeth (and practice them yourself), and save up to 90 glasses of water per day.
- Wet your toothbrush under the water
- Turn off the tap
- Apply toothpaste
- Brush your teeth for 2 minutes
- Fill a small glass with water
- Rinse and swish with water from the glass.
Additionally, each day during this week-long health observance, the EDA is asking consumers to tell a friend or family member to do the same. Just tell seven other people by the end of the week, and together you can save 720 glasses of water. That’s 90 gallons of water saved for each person who tells seven friends—imagine the impact your entire client list could have.
