At Cosmoprof North America last week, I had the opportunity to experience the new Orly GelFX Gel Manicure System, which promises a durable, chip-free manicure that lasts for two weeks with superior shine and easy removal. The company matched GelFX to 32 of its top-selling colors ranging from neutrals to metallics to vibrant shades of blue, purple, and black. I opted for the shade In the Navy, a beautiful royal blue shade. It’s been exactly one week since I had the manicure and my nails are still shiny and chip-free. What also got my attention with this new manicure system, is that the Cleanser, Primer, and Basecoat used are all infused with vitamins to build strength and nourish the nails—antioxidant vitamins A and E help to promote healthy nails, while pro-vitamin B5 protects the structure of the natural nail. Also, Orly’s vitamin-infused Cuticle Oil is made with orange blossom and wild cherry extracts to condition and moisturize cuticles.

Shortcuts launched its latest feature, Scorecard, specifically for business owners who have ever wondered if expectations on staff are too low, if sales targets lack ambition, or if marketing could be more driven. Scorecard allows spas and salons to compare their performance against others in their city or state or across the country. In addition, Scorecard users can view sales, statistics, retail numbers, and more to see where they are at and where they should improve. “Many technology companies in other industries, including Google, have been creating similar systems to help their clients understand their performance and benchmark themselves against others in their category,” says Paul Tate, CEO North America for Shortcuts Software. “Viewed in context with other business results, your business data suddenly has more meaning and it’s much clearer what areas could use some work or where you excel compared to others.”

Celebrating 20 years in business, Rhonda Allison Cosmeceuticals hosted its annual corporate retreat. The retreat was intended to help employees sharpen skills, test strengths, and bring lessons learned back to headquarters. The challenge included team and leadership simulations and action-learning experiences, which helped employees hone critical skills in team development, multitasking, and on-the-job applications. The two teams—Team RAW and Team RA—also learned strategies for improving communication, managing deadlines and stress, and effectively resolving conflict.
