Renowned chef and restaurateur, Kelly Liken, who has appeared on such shows as Bravo’s Top Chef D.C. and the Food Network’s Iron Chef America, is heading to Italy and bringing along her passion for cooking and Pilates. From September 5-11, Liken is inviting guests to join her for the “Plates and Pilates” retreat taking place during the Italian harvest season at the luxurious Cascina Papaveri villa, a small working farm, in Piedmonte, Italy. The week-long retreat offers guests the chance to rejuvenate the mind and the body with Pilates and yoga and embrace their love of cooking. “Nutrition and exercise go hand in hand,” says Liken. “I love food and cooking and it will always be a part of my life. I thought, what better way to bring the two things that I love doing to such a beautiful setting as Italy?”
During the culinary portion of the trip, Liken will lead guests on day trips to the market while introducing them to respected artisans along the way. She will also guide guests on a truffle hunt to enrich their cultural and culinary experience. Every evening she will teach a hands-on cooking class where participants will learn how to make such Italian classics as handmade pasta from scratch. For those guests who truly want to embrace the wellness experience, expert Pilates instructor Elizabeth Sullivan will be on hand to lead Pilates and yoga classes in the state-of-the-art Pilates studio. Sullivan will provide an intimate setting where guests will receive a customized program to fit their goals and lifestyle. Guests can also enjoy such leisure activities as a wine tour in the breathtaking Piedmonte wine region, where they will learn all about food and wine pairings. The villa also offers a private pool where guests can relax and local villages to stroll through and explore.
