A few years ago, I spent a week at Rancho La Puerta (Tecate, Mexico). During my stay, I sampled a variety of classes, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed one that involved hula hooping. I’m neither athletic nor particularly coordinated, so when I saw the hoops on the ground, I was a little dubious about the class. But it turns out, I’m a surprisingly good hula hooper and sometimes even grab one at the gym and use it for 10 minutes as a great ab blaster. So when I heard that hula is hot this month at the Spa at Trump at Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago, I was sort of disappointed that I don’t live in the Windy City. Throughout the month of May, the spa is featuring Hula Hooping for Health ($30) each Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Led by certified trainer Toni Scott, this rigorous 45-minute Hula Hoop class tones arms, glutes, and thighs; increases flexibility; and helps participants burn up to 100 calories every eight minutes, which is the equivalent of running one mile. Here’s hoping the New York outpost of the hotel brings the class to Manhattan. I’ll most certainly be signing up.
New Life Hiking Spa (Killington, VT) is about to re-open its doors for its 34th season, which takes place May 19 to October 2. In celebration, guests can enjoy special opening rates. Those who participate in the 11-night weight loss retreats during the dates of June 17-28, July 5-16, July 16-27, August 4-15, August 20-31, and September 6-17 will receive $225 off per person on the total amount of the stay. Also, all vacationers who book by June 5 will $12 off per night for lodging between May 30 and October 2. It’s just one way this affordable destination for hiking, weight loss, and spa is making it even easier for visitors to take a hike.
