Soundings of the Planet Encourages Sleep

It’s National Sleep Awareness Week, and according to the National Sleep Foundation, adults need seven to nine hours of sleep each night to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Soundings of the Planet is helping people get the recommended amount of sleep with its new CD, A Sound Sleep: Guided Meditations With Relaxing Music & Nature Sounds, which is designed specifically to help people fall asleep — and stay asleep. Dudley Evenson’s soothing voice guides the listener to a deep state of relaxation and helps in letting go of worrisome thoughts, and calming music enhances the process. The CD features gentle nature sounds of rain and ocean waves as well as the subliminal alpha, theta, and delta frequencies to help people relax and fall asleep. Sweet Dreams!

Starwood Hotels to Go Dark for Earth Hour

Sometimes, saving energy can be as simple as turning off a light. That’s the philosophy behind Starwood’s participation in Earth Hour, which takes place March 26 at 8:30 pm local time. This year will mark the company’s third annual participation in this eco event, which is global environmental awareness effort created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to send a powerful global message about the importance of environmental sustainability and caring for the planet.

From Beijing and Brussels to Baltimore and Buenos Aires, Starwood hotels, including St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W, Westin, Le Méridien, Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft, and Element, will turn off their lights and take other energy-saving measures for one full hour, underscoring the company’s dedication to environmental sustainability. As they have in previous years, participating Starwood hotels will turn off exterior signage lighting. Properties will also participate by dimming or turning off non-essential interior lighting, using candlelight in appropriate public areas such as restaurants and bars, and using in-room voicemail messages and in-room television messages to inform guests about Earth Hour observances. This year, in more than 100,000 hotel rooms, guests staying in participating Starwood properties will also get encouraged to turn off the lights. For the first time, Starwood Preferred Guests who take part in Earth Hour and will be awarded 100 Starpoints if they register at www.spg.com/earthhourpledge.

“This year’s theme emphasizes what we all need to do once the lights come back on, which aligns perfectly with Starwood’s ongoing dedication to environmental stewardship,” says Sandy Swider, vice president of global citizenship for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. “It was inspiring to see how passionately our associates and guests all over the world embraced the spirit of Earth Hour last year, and they made a powerful statement about how each of us can make a difference.”

Is your spa participating in this year’s Earth Hour? If you haven’t thought about it, consider dimming the lights to help save the planet.
