The Spa at Chelsea Piers Introduces a Massage Discount to Celebrate Athletes

Several years ago, the American Spa staff ran a half marathon in Phoenix to raise money for Team in Training, a worthwhile organization that supports The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Rediscovering my love of running, I went on to participate in the New York City Marathon. Needless to say, after pounding the pavement for 26.2 miles, a massage was just what my body demanded. This year, those feeling the stress of competition can pamper stressed and sore muscles at The Spa at Chelsea Piers (New York City) with a special offer starting Nov. 7. In celebration of this weekend’s New York City Marathon, the spa, which is located at The Sports Center at Chelsea Piers, is honoring athletes who bring in a bib from any race in 2010 with a 25 percent discount off a massage. “The Sports Center has long attracted serious athletes because of our unsurpassed training facilities,” says Greta Wagner, Sports Center general manager. “We send hundreds of athletes a year to run marathons, race in triathlons all over the world, do local 5K runs and Ultra Marathons. We have members swim the English Channel, compete in Badwater, and summit Everest. We want to congratulate the athletes with a little rest and recovery so they can get their bodies ready for another great physical challenge.”
