I love a good Cinderella story as much as the next person, which is why I couldn’t resist sharing this one. A native of Long Island, Danielle Knerr joined The Spa at Norwich Inn (CT) as a housekeeper in 1997, initially cleaning rooms on the night shift. In 1998, she was promoted to assistant night housekeeping supervisor and then to housekeeping night supervisor the following year. She then transferred to the spa, where she worked as a spa desk concierge before continuing to work her way up the ladder. In 2000, she was promoted to front desk supervisor, and in 2002, she was made spa operations manager. After becoming a licensed massage therapist in 2005, Knerr was promoted to assistant spa director the next year. Throughout the last few years, she has earned certifications in Reiki, craniosacral, and oncology massage. She also spearheaded the creation and this year’s launch of The Fragile Client, a program that promotes spa services for those living with cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and other chronic illnesses. Proving hard work and dedication can take you where you want to go, Knerr was recently named spa director and now supervises a staff of 100 licensed massage therapists, estheticians, fitness instructors, and support staff.
