BPC Founders Offer New Book For Cleansing at Home

I have been a big fan of Blueprint Cleanse (BPC) for years, but because purchasing the juices can get a little pricey, I can only afford to do the detoxification program about every six months. So I was thrilled to learn about a new book that is coming out later this week written by Zoe Sakoutis and Erica Huss, the founders of BPC. The 3-Day Cleanse offers readers step-by-step instructions on how to successfully complete a 1-day, 3-day, or 14-day cleanse and make their own juices at home. There is also raw and partially-raw food recipes; advice on how to not cheat; and sidebars, tips, and tricks from those who have completed the cleanse in the past. To order your copy, click here. And as an added bonus, you’ll receive 15 percent off of your next cleanse purchase it in advance.

CLAY Kicks Off Spring Training
with a New Fitness Offering

Given the option of working out in a gym or outdoors, I almost always opt for the latter. In fact, running across the Brooklyn Bridge is one of my all-time favorite workouts. Lately though, I’ve been a bit lax about running. As a result, I’ve been trying to get to the gym on a more regular basis. As a total class junkie, I find the more challenging and intense a session is, the more likely I am to come back for more. This past weekend, I had an opportunity to check out a new bodyBARRE class at CLAY, a popular fitness club and spa in New York City. Taught by creator and professional dancer Nityda Coleman, this demanding class combines moves from classical dance, Pilates, yoga, and isometrics to sculpt the legs, tone the tush, and strengthen the core. Before long, I realized my recent hiatus from running had taken quite a toll on my legs, which trembled with each exercise. Fortunately, it was just the wake-up call I needed to kick my fitness routine into gear for spring.

Divas Delight at Spa Villagio

My family and I toast my grandmother's 80th birthday at the Villagio Inn & Spa.

I just returned from an amazing girl’s weekend in Napa, CA, celebrating my grandmother’s 80th birthday. While we most definitely partook in wine tastings, delicious meals, and more, our favorite part of the trip was a morning spent in the divine Spa Villagio at the Villagio Inn & Spa (Yountville, CA). Each of the ladies in the group found something they loved at the spa—my grandmother enjoyed the seasonal Essence of the Valley Manicure and Pedicure that was infused with detoxifying mustard seeds; my mother received what she called “the best treatment of her life” courtesy of the Wellness Massage; my aunt soothed a sore knee that was recovering from a snowboarding fall with the Hot Stone Massage; and my dehydrated skin got a much-needed moisture fix with the heavenly Hydramemory Facial. Other members of the group enjoyed the steam, sauna, and Jacuzzi amenities and soaked up the sun in the outdoor relaxation area.

While we reluctantly left the spa after a blissful morning of relaxation due to a schedule that was jam-packed with activities in the area, we all took note of the fabulous Viva La Diva Girlfriends Getaway Package and wished we had time for the full-day escape. Available through December, the $285-per-person-package includes access to a private spa suite with a complimentary hour of relaxation time to enjoy amenities such as a fireplace, infinity soaking tubs, a steam shower, and a flat screen television with Bose surround sound system. Also included is either a Comfort Zone Facial or a 50-minute body treatment; an Essence of the Valley Manicure & Pedicure; a platter of scrumptious snacks; a glass of sparkling wine; and wine tasting passes to several neighboring wineries and tasting rooms.

While we may have missed out on this decadent option, no one was too upset—it gave us the perfect excuse to return to Spa Villagio and get the full diva treatment in the future. Cheers to the next Napa Valley girlfriends getaway!

Pamper Your Pucker with Dr. Hauschka
Skin Care’s Lip Care Stick

This past winter has not been without its trials and tribulations. From impressive snowfall to frigid temperatures, my biggest complaint to date has been the dry air that electrifies everything I touch. Throughout the season, my hair has stood on end, and I’ve shocked, literally, many unsuspecting friends and family members with innocent hugs and such. Consistently chapped lips are another casualty of the humidity-free zone in which I live. After trying numerous lip balms and fearing all the while that I would become addicted, I finally found relief for my dry, moisture-deprived lips with Dr. Hauschka Skin Care’s Lip Care Stick. With nourishing ingredients like apricot kernel oil and shea butter, the hydrating stick left my lips soft and healthy. I’m happy to say that I no longer have to crack a smile. For more on the skin-saving benefits of apricot, check out In the Mix in our April issue.

Beauty of Spa-ing in Bora Bora

Plain and simple: if you’re looking for paradise, you can find it on Bora Bora. I figured this out the moment I landed at Motu Mute Airport (BOB) during a recent visit to this tiny island in the South Pacific. Immediately upon arrival, I was rewarded for my many hours of traveling with a spectacular view of Bora Bora’s beloved Mount Otemanu—and it was love at first sight. My affair only intensified during my week-long stay thanks to the people I met, the beautiful resorts I visited, the exciting adventures I took part in, and the splendid spas I visited.

My favorite aspect about spa-ing on Bora Bora is that every spa I experienced honored its spectacular location in one way or another. Whether I was sampling the sweet-smelling, locally crafted products from Marù Spa at the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort & Spa, taking in the sights from the outdoor relaxation area at Spa Miri Miri at The St. Regis Resort Bora Bora (check out the view in the above photo!), indulging in a black-pearl-powder foot scrub on the deck of the luxe Kahaia Spa Suite at The Spa at Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora, or even enjoying the loud roar of the ocean from one of the lounges at the Deep Ocean Spa at the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa, I was thrilled to embrace the sense of place each property offered.

Dermalogica Announces Design Contest Winner

Dermalogica’s Clean Start line, which is designed for young-adult skin, recently conducted a global contest in search of the perfect design to place on its reusable aluminum water bottle. The winner, Filip Iliev Radenovski of Australia, has been announced and will receive a cash prize and credit for the design.

“Hydration is key for healthy skin,” says Jane Wurwand, founder Dermalogica. “We encourage people to drink plenty of water each day to keep their digestion and overall metabolism at peak function. We’re also sensitive to the fact that plastic waste, including one-time use, disposable plastic water-bottles, must be minimized, so this design project makes sense for our skincare ‘tribe’ on many levels.”

The bottle will be available at Clean Start stockist locations worldwide beginning in May.

SmoothMED Offers Clients a Virtual Vial of Botox

As the editor of American Spa’s Medical Spa Report section, I have learned my fair share about facial injectables from both doctors and patients alike. And, while almost everyone I know who has gotten some sort of injectable treatment was more than satisfied with the results, most agreed that the price is somewhat steep. SmoothMED, New York City’s only walk-in Botox Boutique, found a way to help clients lower their costs with the introduction of The Botox Bank. Here’s how it works: Clients log onto, where they select their desired quantity of Botox and deposit it into their accounts. When they visit SmoothMED at their convenience, a board-certified physician will administer the Botox ,and the units will be deducted from their account. This way, the client is saving money by taking advantage of volume discounts.

“I began to see a need for The Botox Bank as patients asked if they could buy a whole vial at a sale price and save the rest for later,” explains Jack Berdy, M.D., owner and medical director of SmoothMED. “Obviously, with the short shelf life, it can’t be saved for three to four months until their next visit, but I could see the advantage to regular Botox patients who want a way to control their costs. A real vial turned into a virtual vial, and The Botox Bank was born.” Thanks to Dr. Berdy and his Botox Bank, the price of beauty just got a little lower in Manhattan.

Send a Birthday Message and
Reconnect with Your Clients

Last week, I celebrated my birthday and was overwhelmed by all the warm, heartfelt wishes I received. Not only was I lavished with attention from my nearest and dearest but I was also treated to kind birthday wishes from some surprising sources, including Princess Cruises and the general manager at The Taj Mahal Hotel (New Delhi, India). I hadn’t been on a Princess Cruise in years but it reminded me of the fabulous trip I took with my dad to Mexico. And it had been almost two years since I had traveled to India and stayed at The Taj while checking out the spa scene there. It’s gestures like that—a simple happy birthday email—that reveal a true commitment to customer service. If you aren’t thinking about your loyal customers on their special days, you may want to reconsider. It’s an easy way to make a long-lasting connection.
