Given the option of working out in a gym or outdoors, I almost always opt for the latter. In fact, running across the Brooklyn Bridge is one of my all-time favorite workouts. Lately though, I’ve been a bit lax about running. As a result, I’ve been trying to get to the gym on a more regular basis. As a total class junkie, I find the more challenging and intense a session is, the more likely I am to come back for more. This past weekend, I had an opportunity to check out a new bodyBARRE class at CLAY, a popular fitness club and spa in New York City. Taught by creator and professional dancer Nityda Coleman, this demanding class combines moves from classical dance, Pilates, yoga, and isometrics to sculpt the legs, tone the tush, and strengthen the core. Before long, I realized my recent hiatus from running had taken quite a toll on my legs, which trembled with each exercise. Fortunately, it was just the wake-up call I needed to kick my fitness routine into gear for spring.
