Guests Discover Beauty Within on Captiva Island

captiva_insetIn 1996, Kay Casperson released her first book entitled, “Beauty Inside Out: 80 Ways to Become Positively Unforgettable.” Now, with the opening of The Kay Casperson Lifestyle Spa Boutique, the nationally recognized author and spa director is able to inspire even more people discover beauty within. “Embracing emotional, spiritual, physical, environmental, and social development, we encourage spa guests to embark on a journey to discover the true meaning of the word beauty,” says Casperson.

Recently launched at South Seas Island Resort on Southwest Florida’s Captiva Island, the spa is a 4,000-square-foot beach-inspired haven that focuses on both inner and outer beauty. “Lifestyle consultants,” take place of traditional therapists and they provide a range of services–from massage to cosmetic treatments, from Pilates to Zumba. Guests can also enjoy the natural benefits of Casperson’s sea-inspired skincare line BIO Essentials and her cosmetic line Inside, which are both offered at the spa.

Taking my idea a step further, Willow Stream Spa is offering guests the opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day throughout the entire month of February with 5 fabulous Follow Your Heart specials:

Red Ribbon Lips (starting at $129): With any Willow Stream facial, clients will receive a complimentary Jane Iredale Organic Sugar Lip Scrub.

Sending You Kisses: Guests take home a complimentary Lip Kit and Lip Definer by Jane Iredale with the purchase of a $200 Willow Stream gift certificate.

Hearfelt (starting at $349): This couples’ treatment includes side-by-side massages, a romantic tub soak, and two flutes of champagne in a spa suite.

Love Me (starting at $149): Clients who book any 90-minute spa treatment in a timeslot before noon will receive a Willow Stream bento box lunch of their choice.

What Is Your New Year’s Business Resolution?

By Guest Blogger | Jan 21, 2010

angela2-2009“This year, as my management team and I pondered what we would do different in 2010, we decided to dispense with the usual resolutions that are forgotten by Valentine’s Day, and instead, each pick one word that would help guide us through the year. My word is ‘joy,’ so that I remember to find joy in every day, no matter how dark a day it is. There is joy every day, if we choose to find it. That joy will then radiate out to others, and hopefully, it will brighten their lives as well.”—Angela Cortright, owner/founder, Spa Gregorie’s (Rancho Santa Margarita, Newport, and Del Mar, CA)

Loews Hotels Helps Guests and Their Pets Shape Up

loews_pumped_up_pets_picAs a travel aficionado, a wannabe exercise lover, and the owner of an overweight bulldog, I was excited to hear about a new program from Loews Hotels. The company has just debuted the Pumped-Up Pets package (starting at $124 per night), which includes a deluxe room, workout tips for both the guest and their pet, a Zisc dog Frisbee, and a specially-created and veterinarian-approved “Scratch My Flat Belly” meal for pets.

Studies show that people who diet and exercise with their pet stick to it, well, like a dog with a bone! In fact, research conducted by Northwestern Memorial Hospital revealed that more than 60 percent of people who began an eating and exercise program with their pets stuck to the program for a year. Loews is making it easy to get started—the package is offered at 17 Loews Hotels throughout the U.S. and Canada and is available through May 1, 2010. Winston and I can’t wait to sign up!

Haiti Fundraiser Seeks Support

article-1242929-07d9251d000005dc-556_964x640Calling all New York spas! Oasis Day Spa’s Bruce Schoenberg is in the process of organizing a fundraiser to help the victims of Haiti’s recent earthquake. He’s in need of your help and support to organize an event called “Massage for Haiti.” Along with seeking staff members at area spas who will volunteer their services, he’s also on the hunt for a large venue, where he plans to invite caring New Yorkers to receive chair or table massages, with 100 percent of the proceeds raised going to relief efforts.

“I would like to see the spa industry nationally get on board with this and hope to see others organize similar efforts in their respective cities,” he says. “I think we can get this together in short order and raise awareness for the event and do it by end of the month.”

If you would like to get involved, please email Bruce at bruce@oasisdayspanyc.com or call him at 212-254-7722 ext 238.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Boston Offers Guests Alone Time

Mandarin orientalAs an editor, I am often invited on press trips to various locations all around the world. Often, these events include editors from other publications, allowing me the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy the company of others. But sometimes I am the only one on the trip, so I can explore the  spa and resort on my own. Although I certainly like the group trips, the individual trips allow me much needed alone time to relax, reflect, and recharge in solitude.

For spa-goers who long for a break like that, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Boston recently introduced the Flying Solo package. For $555 on weekdays and $525 on weekends, the package includes:

• One night accommodation in a Lifestyle guestroom, which includes amenities such as a yoga mat for practice and a daybed for relaxing

• Choice of a Time Ritual or a Mandarin Oriental Signature Spa Therapy

• A one-hour group Yogalates session with a personal trainer

• A healthy lunch in the spa café

• A Mandarin Oriental Signature Spa bath oil in the evening

For those who would rather share this experience with a loved one, the package is also available for two guests at an additional rate. But I personally am a big proponent of setting some time aside to just focus on me.

What Is Your New Year’s Business Resolution?

By Guest Blogger | Jan 18, 2010

libby-staples1“As we near the end of our first year of business and head into 2010, I am reflecting on what an exciting time it is to be a part of The Spa at Omni Mount Washington Resort. To be able to help open this gorgeous state-of-the-art facility has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. When thinking about my business goals for 2010, I want to continue to create lasting memories for our guests and increase our levels of service. But what drives success? I have lists of business resolutions, but all boil down to one simple truth, if you love what you do, all will fall into place. My passionate and dedicated staff reminds me of this daily. This is what makes us so successful, and this is my personal and professional goal for 2010. In the words of Rumi, ‘Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.’”—Libby Staples, spa director, The Spa at Omni Mount Washington Resort (Bretton Woods, NH)
