Always trying to keep up-to-date with the newest spa launches, we, here at American Spa, have definitely noticed a decline in property openings. Despite the fact that many projects have been shelved because of the sluggish economy, there are a number of high-profile properties around the world that are set to open this year and we’re psyched. Take a look at this New York Times story, which ran on Sunday—it’s a great outline for what’s to come.
These are some of the hotels close to home, which are set to offer first-class spa experiences in the new year:
-The 46-story Trump SoHo New York is set to open The Spa at Trump, which will boast a luxury hammam experience, indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, a salon, and a state-of-the-art fitness center in the heart of downtown Manhattan. WHEN? Spring 2010
-Not too far from its sister property the Dream Hotel, The Chatwal New York will be opening an intimate spa near bustling Times Square. The luxe two-treatment room respite will include one couples room, a lap pool, and a mani-pedi station. If guests prefer to kick back in their rooms, they can enjoy exclusively designed Kashwére robes and Asprey amenities. WHEN? Spring 2010
-The Nolitan, a 55-room luxury boutique hotel, may not be announcing a spa just yet, but they will be offering their guests a memorable in-room spa experience, thanks to exclusively designed amenities by the neighborhood darling, Red Flower. WHEN? “Early” 2010
-Meatpacking chic is moving on up to Park Avenue when Gansevoort Park opens. If guests don’t feel like relaxing in the indoor-outdoor heated rooftop pool, they can kick back at the newest outpost of the beloved Exhale Spa brand. WHEN? Summer 2010

Although it is only January, I am already counting down the days until winter ends. As I was bundling up this morning to leave my apartment for work, I imagined how great it would feel to be lying on a beach soaking up the sun on a remote tropical island instead of walking to the subway in 25-degree weather. That is exactly what I did last month, when I was invited on a press trip to Little Dix Bay (LDB), a luxury resort on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. While there, I spent the days snorkeling in the clear blue water, enjoying a sunset cruise around the islands, visiting The Baths, mingling with the locals, hiking through the rain forest, and eating decadent meals. Of course, no trip to LDB would be complete without a visit to Sense, A Rosewood Spa. Like the rest of the resort, the spa incorporates elements of nature and exudes an understated elegance. Not only did I experience a facial and a massage but I also whiled away many hours relaxing in the spa’s infinity pool enjoying the breathtaking view of the water. And although I wish I could hop on a plane today and return to this paradise, at least I have the memory of my trip there to keep me warm and cozy on these cold winter days.
Keep your eyes peeled for more on my visit to LDB in a future issue.
