In today’s fast-paced world, many nail spas have adopted an assembly line mentality in which the need for speed is tantamount to good service. For those who prefer a more relaxing experience in an inviting lounge-like setting, there is The Back Room Hand & Foot Spa, a charming retreat found in Carol’s Daughter Flagship store in Harlem (New York City). Relying on recipes that incorporate Carol’s Daughter products and a host of fresh ingredients, the spa offers seasonal manicures and pedicures, such as the Haute Chocolate Experience ($22 for a manicure, $36 for a pedicure, $48 for both), made from brown sugar, cocoa, cream, and honey. I experienced the Lavender & Vanilla Experience pedicure ($36), which used chamomile, lavender, sea salt, and vanilla. When it was over, I was reluctant to leave the cozy retreat.
