On a recent trip to the West Coast, I made a stop at the new Spa L’Auberge at the elegant L’Auberge Del Mar. I’m a huge fan of the California beach lifestyle, and this town and spa could not have been a more perfect match to my idea of sunny SoCal living. I visited the spa after a morning beach walk, where I watched a youth surfing competition and got a glimpse of a local pod of dolphins. Already in a seaside state of mind, the spa was the ideal place to be. Designed to emulate a beach cottage, the 5,000-square-foot, 10-treatment-room spa makes ocean-loving hotel guests and locals feel right at home within its cozy walls. Vintage surfboards and black-and-white photos of beach-goers in the 1950s and ’60s, combined with bright colors, crisp white accents, and bleached wood floors create a ambience that is inviting and memorable. Add a spa menu that is chock-full of surf-and-sand-style treatments, like three signature beach-inspired body treatments called Bask, Surge, and Drift, and you’ve got the perfect beach retreat. I was most certainly ready dive into a day of R&R. For more on this spa, check out the October issue of American Spa.
